How Do Metal Braces Work?

When we first put metal braces on, we start by adhering small, square brackets to the center of each tooth’s front surface. These act as anchors that move the teeth, but they can’t do it alone. In order to place pressure on the teeth so they shift, we run a metal wire through each of the brackets, called an archwire. There are two archwires, one on the top row of teeth, and one on the bottom. These wires can be tightened by Dr. Berry to help shift the teeth in a specific direction until the final results are achieved.
Who is a Good Candidate for Metal Braces?

The best candidates for metal braces are those who have mild to moderate orthodontic problems, such as crowding, gaps between teeth, misalignment, and bite problems. Oftentimes, a patient may not be a good candidate for clear aligners because they have more complex orthodontic issues. In these cases, it’s often likely that traditional braces may be the better fit, as they’re able to address a wider range of concerns in a more streamlined manner.
